Available Balance or Available Funds

Your Available Balance or Available Funds includes your balance at the end of the previous business day (Current Balance) plus any pending transactions on your account and any available balance on your Overdraft Limit or BankLine. Pending transactions can include a deposit, loan payment, or other debit made via a CNB representative, ACH, CentraNet, The Informant, ATM, debit card, etc.

Pre-authorization

Some merchants process a transaction on your card in a random amount to be sure it is valid with funds available before providing you with a product or service. This transaction is a pre-authorization. Examples include: 1) $1.00 charges from convenience stores when you purchase gas, 2) restaurants which authorize some percentage over your bill to be sure there are funds available for the tip. The pre-authorization will be removed from your account when the actual charge is processed or in three days, whichever is sooner. Please see the following example:

Last night you had dinner at Cheddar’s and paid with your debit card. Your actual bill was $30, but with the tip, you authorized $33. When you arrived home and checked your account, there was a charge of $40 from Cheddars. Cheddar’s most likely pre-authorized your card to be sure that there was room for a generous 20% tip. In three days or as soon as the actual charge is processed, the $40 pre-authorization will be removed from your account.

Current Balance

Your Current Balance is the actual balance in your account at the end of the previous business day.
